COLLIDE

(P. Leamy)

I have a great friend called Phil Leamy. Phil and I were in a band together in London in '94-'97. Phil was the bass player but had a whole bucket full of songs he was always shy about bringing to the band. Phil is a part of the tradition of Celtic/English song writers. Years ago the folk writers sat around in art cafes, union rooms and smoke filled attics in black and white photos and film. Phil works in Soho and lives with his cat Wisden in South London.

Hope is holding us together
Fate is pulling us apart
Sparkle in your eye
The universe collides and there you are

I don't want to live forever
Just to hold you for a day
Flashes in the sky
The universe collides and there you are

I've seen you change from every mood
And back again in an afternoon
Kissing the mirror then punching the wall
Laughing to yourself as the bitter teardrops fall

The night unfolds
The neon sign says "Straight ahead"
So I move along
