MY BEST MISTAKES | |
(N. Assirati) Another one of Nicks. He had the idea with the chords and his very limited piano playing but knew what he wanted. I think there's a nod to Radio 4 and Elvis Costello in there somewhere. The lyrics are gorgeous. We worked long and hard in the studio trying to get the arrangement right, me and Bekka replacing pianos, scoring cellos, different tunings and capos on guitars. When I first heard it I knew it was the title track and final song for the CD it is one of those songs that just needs contemplation after it. |

I dreamed I was an angel, I was flying up above Down below, the garden and the places that I love All the tears I left behind, the things I never said The faces in the photographs were spinning around my head And I knew that I was searching but I still don't know what for The first time I saw you on a long gone summer night First time I held you underneath a yellow light Walking home through rainy streets and nowhere else was warm All I ever wanted was to hold you in my arms But it seems so long ago now, do you remember me at all I saw the birds were flying so I left you all alone A lifetime chasing shadows on a long and rocky road All the hurt and damage done, your gentle flowing eye My best and worst mistakes were never understanding why And I wish I'd never hurt you I wish I'd never made you cry
